HBO‘s Lanterns is adding to its cast again, signing Jason Ritter for a recurring role.
Ritter will play a character named Billy Macon in the series based on DC’s Green Lantern. Billy is described as “a good-looking charmer who does his father’s bidding. Capitalizing on his family’s reputation, he clings to his small-town ego and has everything to lose.”
Billy’s father, William Macon, is being played by Garret Dillahunt. William is a self-righteous and conspiracy-minded and ruthlessly ambitious man who hides his darker side behind a charming facade.
Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre star in Lanterns, playing Green Lantern Corps members Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The intergalactic cops are drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland. The cast also includes Kelly Macdonald, Poorna Jagannathan and Ulrich Thomsen.
Lanterns, from Warner Bros. TV and DC Studios, began filming in late February. Series co-creator Chris Mundy (Ozark) is the showrunner and is writing the eight-episdoe season with co-creators Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, The Leftovers) and Eisner Award-winning comics writer Tom King. They executive produce with DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, Ron Schmidt, and James Hawes, who is directing the first two episodes. Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel and Alik Sakharov are also set to direct.
Ritter currently stars alongside Katky Bates in CBS’ Matlock and has a guest role in the forthcoming second season of Peacock’s Poker Face. His recent credits also include Netflix’s Raising Dion, Hulu’s miniseries Candy and voice work on Krapopolis and Gen V. He is repped by The Burstein Company and Gersh.
The InSneider newsletter first reported Ritter’s casting.
